Mount Diablo State Park.
This park is one of the ecological treasures of the San Francisco Bay Area. Experience the mountain’s beautiful wildflowers, extensive trail system, fascinating wildlife and distinctive rock formations. View the stars from its lofty heights, bike ride to its 3,849- foot summit or explore the more remote trails by horseback. Ohlone Regional Wilderness.
The remote and beautiful Ohlone Regional Wilderness—whose centerpiece is 3,817-foot Rose Peak, just 32 feet lower than Mount Diablo—is accessible only through the Ohlone Wilderness Trail. Traversing 28 miles of mountains and canyons in southern Alameda County, the trail is open to hikers and equestrians. Trail bicycles and motor vehicles are not permitted. Sunol Regional Wilderness.
Along with the Ohlone Regional Wilderness, the Ohlone Trail passes through three regional parks, one of which is Sunol Regional Wilderness near Pleasanton. This large park is ideal for hiking, biking, horseback riding and camping. In addition to naturalist-led activities and adventures, there are self-guided treks along the Indian Joe Nature Trail. Los Vaqueros Reservoir.
The nearly 20,000 acres of protected watershed surrounding the Contra Costa Water District’s Los Vaqueros Reservoir is a popular recreation area with more than 55 miles of scenic trails.
